Insulated Garage Door Cost Calculator
Estimate the installed cost of insulated single- and double-layer garage doors by R-value. Insulated doors run $1,100–$4,000, with a national average near $2,000 for a double—typically 10–18% more than a comparable non-insulated door. R-value, layer construction (polystyrene vs. polyurethane), size, and your state's labor rates drive the price. Adjust the options below for a live low–average–high estimate.

An insulated double door averages $2,000 installed, typically 10–18% more than a comparable non-insulated door. Polyurethane triple-layer doors cost the most but offer the highest R-values. Single-car insulated doors run less.
For attached, heated, or workshop garages, insulation improves comfort, cuts energy loss, and reduces noise. The door is also more rigid and durable. In detached, mild-climate garages the payback is smaller.
R-values range from about R-6 for basic polystyrene to R-18+ for polyurethane. Attached garages and cold or hot climates benefit from R-12 and above. Match the door’s R-value to your walls for consistent performance.
Polystyrene uses rigid foam panels between door layers for moderate R-values at a lower cost. Polyurethane is injected foam that bonds the layers for higher R-values, greater strength, and quieter operation. Polyurethane costs more but performs better.
